Lawson Bader

Lawson Bader joined DonorsTrust as president and CEO in November 2015. Previously, he served three years as president of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a research and advocacy organization dedicated to reducing government barriers to economic liberty. While there, Mr. Bader expanded CEI’s litigation and communication efforts including King v Burwell, the constitutional challenge to Obamacare which reached the U.S. Supreme Court, and multiple successful FOIA and administrative challenges to regulatory overreach at the Environmental Protection Agency, Transportation Safety Administration, Department of Homeland Security, Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, and the National Security Administration. He also launched the Real Clear Radio Hour with Bill Frezza. Before joining CEI, Mr. Bader served 16 years as vice president of the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. There, he created Capitol Hill Campus, the largest bi-partisan economic education professional development program for Congressional staff, and managed research programs focused on transparency, economic regulation, and state government-based economic literacy. He has also held numerous DC-based positions including managing government relations for SRI International, conducting legislative analysis with the DC law firm Pierson, Semmes and Finley, and working at the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs. He is the author of a popular column in Human Events, and is renowned for his love of whisky and the wearing of the tartan. Mr. Bader earned a BA in political science from Wheaton College (IL) and an MA in public policy from The Johns Hopkins University.
